Execution is about people - you have all the talent you need on your team and you can execute your business as total.
Starts are usually quite chaotic - everyone might be doing everything. Still keep the goal in mind. Aim for the goal still.
When you are growing - you might need to start following the execution. You might have people working in different locations and you are still aiming to the common goal.
You should always know what should you be doing and what should you be doing NEXT.
Mark weekly progress. Personal objectives, company objectives.
Mark object and key results every friday for example.
Don't do anything that is not on the OKR-list.
Usually no more than 5 objectives. Don't do unimportant stuff. Measurable results can be followed (numeric). All must understand what the objectives are.
You can use the interval that fits for your company.
It is ok to go from top down or low up. Usually companies do top down. All levels need to have their tasks done to the individual level.
Examples of bad objectives, they are not measurable.
To test out.
When you make quarterly objectives, make them bold, try to reach them at least 60%, after quarter is over, you have been focusing on these issues so they should be ok, got and get the new quarterly goals and focus fully on those. Follow the previous goals and progress and if necessary take them back to future goals to fix the issues.
Mostly fits our company level.
Make concrete measurable goals that can be followed.
When you are a small company, you can do this type of following around the coffee table. When you are growing bigger, start using some tool you can define and follow the objectives and goals and make sure you company is improving!
Topic change. Planning for the future.
Go see it: https://www.executestrategy.net/blog/mckinseys-three-horizons-of-growth/
Generally, 3 months ahead can be planned, next 3 months are harder to define of define what goals can be reached. Next 12 month can be planned, but mostly you can not expect to achieve these goals as they are so far ahead.
On the picture, Horizon 1 - all immediate tasks (1y-2y time frame), next Horizon 3 - think about what you will be creating in the future. Horizon 2 is the in between - how do I get from Horizon 1 to Horizon 3?
The horizon 3 might be years or even decades away.
H1 - Run the business day to day.
H3 - Think what you will be conquering in the far future.
H2 - How will you get from H1 to H3.
